Have you ever gotten tired of being a FILIPINO?

Juan dela Cruz

Have you ever gotten tired of being a FILIPINO? Yes, I sometimes do. In fact, I would always feel jaded with all those killings, corruption, dishonesty, illegal acts and a whole bunch of abhorrent acts done by my fellow countrymen. I mean, who would do that? To steal, lie, and cheat to your mother country? Poverty is not and never will be an excuse. In fact, they are actually adding up the pile on the garbage bins. I would always remind myself to behave no matter what-although I’m not really that successful in doing so-because I believe that doing good merits good aftermath. Yes, trying to be good to everything and everyone is a TOUGH JOB. And I completely understand if someone would say that it’s hard because it really is.

I would always think that there’s no hope in this country. You can’t really blame Filipinos if they can’t be a positive thinker if you could see what’s happening here in the Philippines. Although I feel sad about this whole situation that we are in, I can only do so much to help this country and the rest are for the other 10M Filipinos to do their responsibilities as well. And I sincerely hope that the Government is doing their fair share of that responsibility.

Well, the things that you might heard about my beloved country would be killings, tourists, corruption, tourists get abducted and murdered, and a lot of stuffs-not so pleasant stuffs-in fact, sad things are always happening here. How can a Filipino do this kind of thing-example murder-to his fellow men? I mean, killing is unbelievable as it is. Why kill more? Are there no conscience left in their hearts? Not contented with the government? But why kill? Why make things difficult to other people who are experiencing the same dissatisfaction as you do? And it made me think, if I die from starvation, at least I didn’t kill someone just to feed my aching stomach. At least I didn’t rob someone who could’ve probably been starving because I took his wallet. Sure, we all want a good, even best life for our loved ones. But would they be happy if I took that money from someone who needs it as much as I do? I don’t think so.

As of now, I’m not that positive about this whole Philippines-is-changing thing because a lot of people are still doing their wrongful acts. Sure I do stupid things-I’m no saint myself; I am contributing to this whole mess that we’re in. But at least I’m TRYING to be GOOD. I’m trying to be a GOOD CITIZEN of this country. I’m striving to be good. I’m ACTING to be good.

There are a lot of things that bothers me but I guess all I wanted to say to those people who might be reading this would be: Don’t lose hope in doing good. We can always change. You can’t be too late to change. And somehow, I still believe that Philippines could be like our Asian neighbors: peaceful, improved-in a good way, and possibly, happy :)
